Leaders to convene to chart future for Pacific agriculture, forestry
Pacific Agriculture and Forestry
Ministers and Heads will meet in person for the first time in four years to
boost the region’s agriculture and forest sectors.
The regional meeting of the Pacific
Heads of Agriculture and Forestry Services and companion joint FAO SPC
Agriculture and Forestry Ministerial meeting is the most important event on the
agriculture and forestry calendar. This year’s gathering theme Growing
Together: Transforming Pacific Agriculture and Forestry seeks a new start,
a coming
together to enhance regional collaboration and cooperation with fresh energy in
a face-to-face environment after three years of COVID-19 disruption.
The meetings will be held during the Pacific Week of
Agriculture and Forestry, a week-long assembly of agriculture and forestry
professionals and events, with proposed
themes that include pandemics, climate change and natural resource security,
transforming agriculture and security through science and technology and
creating circular green economies.
Led by the Government of Fiji with support from Food and
Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the Pacific Community
(SPC), this year's Pacific Week will include the Meeting of Ministers of
Agriculture and Forestry as well as the Regional Meeting of the Pacific Heads
of Agriculture and Forestry Services (HOAFs), to be held on March 9 and 10,
respectively.

FAO SPC Agriculture and Forestry Ministerial meeting – held during Pacific Week
of Agriculture and Forestry (PWAF)
When: 6 – 10 March 2023 (HOAFs 9 March and Ministers 10 March)
Where: Sofitel Resort and Spa, Denarau Island, Nadi, Fiji
The first three days of PWAF (6–10 March) will feature a series of side-events designed to address key topics facing the agriculture and forestry sectors in the Pacific region.
Among them are:
· pandemics, climate change and natural resource security,
· transforming agriculture and forestry through science and technology, and
· creating a circular green economy for agriculture and forestry.
PWAF participants will have the opportunity to hear from leading experts in the field, attend interactive workshops and sessions, and network with industry professionals.
