
Empowering Tailevu and Rewa Villages with Mangrove Management Training
The Ministry of Fisheries and Forestry under the International Tropical Timber Organization (ITTO) project, facilitated a Community Based Management Guideline for Mangrove Rehabilitation and Restoration Training in Tailevu and Rewa this week.
The trainings were held in Naivakacau Village, attended by participants from Naivakacau, Natila, Nasilai and Waicoka and in Narocake Village, attended by villagers from Narocake and Muana-i-ra.
The adaptation of the Management Guideline for Mangrove Rehabilitation and Restoration empower vulnerable mangrove communities to align to the village system, clearly demarcating line of process and procedures required to safeguard mangrove environment and ensure strengthen the collaborative partnership of relevant agencies.
The training is based on the development objective of the project which is to promote the conservation, restoration and sustainable management of mangroves through increased community participation that will contribute to the resilience of coastal communities and mangrove ecosystems to natural disasters as well as to the reduction of carbon emissions from deforestation and forest degradation.
