Muani Jetty Opening Boosts Pine Industry and Forest Sector

In a significant milestone for Fiji's forestry sector, the Muani Jetty has officially opened, enhancing the transportation of pine from Muani. This new infrastructure promises to streamline the process of transporting harvested pine logs to Lautoka Port, enhancing efficiency and supporting the local industry.
The construction of the Muani Jetty, completed at a cost of $230,000, was funded by the Fiji Pine Trust through a $700,000 government grant.
The jetty was officially inaugurated by the Acting Permanent Secretary of Fisheries and Forestry, Mr. Rovereto Nayacalevu, alongside the Executive Chairman of Fiji Pine Groups of Companies, Ratu Rakuita Vakalalabure. The event also acknowledged the invaluable contribution of the Vanua Waikatakata, Turaga na Jioravu, for providing boulder materials crucial to the jetty's construction.
Commendations were extended to the Fiji Roads Authority (FRA) and Naboutini Transport for their outstanding work in completing the project despite challenging weather conditions. Their dedication was instrumental in ensuring the timely completion and successful establishment of the Muani Jetty.
A significant highlight of the opening ceremony was the successful berthing of the Genesis Shipping barge at the new jetty. The event was marked by the loading of the first truckload of pine logs onto the barge. This barge, carrying a substantial 2000 tonnes of pine, departed from the Muani shore at 7am on Saturday morning and arrived at Lautoka port by 12 pm yesterday.
The successful operation of the Muani Jetty heralds a promising future for the Pine Scheme on the maritime island, ensuring more efficient transportation and fostering growth opportunities.
As the community looks forward to the benefits that the Muani Jetty will bring, it stands as a testament to the effective collaboration between government bodies, local communities, and industry stakeholders.
